2011 mare, Nianimble (US) x With Conviction (US)/Artsplace (US) owned by Josephine Roberts
Caenwoodconviction or Perdy as she is known at home was purchased from a field for a mere £375. Josephine was inspired to buy a Standardbred as a friend had a pacer that she used for endurance riding. Whilst she had been trained for racing as a youngster, she never actually raced. Josephine explained that when she purchased Perdy, she herself had Polymyalgia and was very weak. Whilst she had owned horses all her life, she felt she was not in the best of health to school a green horse. However, Perdy was “amazingly easy to train and very forgiving of my disability”.
Perdy started off as a ‘happy hacker’ but as Josephine’s health improved, they progressed to doing some long-distance riding. At the same time Josephine’s teenage daughter got her jumping and took her to Pony Club. She has also been hunting and was great at the too. Perdy will pace occasionally (when she’s excited) which doesn’t bother Josephine in the slightest. Full of praise for Perdy, her owner describes her as the “least troublesome of any horse I have ever owned”.
Having enjoyed the long distance riding, Josephine was attracted to the Man Vs Horse Race at Llanwrtyd Wells. This was their first endurance type race and “Perdy was fantastic”. They finished in a very respectable 8th position, which Josephine feels could have been improved upon but “I had the handbrake on as the terrain was very rough”, congratulations on such a great result on what is a very tough competition
Another great story demonstrating just how versatile the standardbred horse is. A mother and daughter horse, from Pony Club to the challenging Man Vs Horse.
