PACT weekend at York provided some great racing and for a great cause.  STAGBI was delighted to be part of the weekend with the latest in the STAGBI 3 year old British Championship Races. It was good to see 2 separate divisions, one for Colts & Geldings and one for Fillies.

Only 5 fillies came to post and the race was won by OAKWOOD DYNASTY (IRE), by Foreclosure (NZ) and the first foal out of Oakwood Destiny / Western Terror (US)

Oakwood Dynasty was only just beaten in a photo finish in the Little Welsh Dragoness at Tregaron. Indeed, the finish involved the same 3 fillies Oakwood Dynasty, Matadora and Imperial Flame.  Oakwood Dynasty and Matadora bided their time at the back of the pack for much of the race, both making a decisive move at the ¾ post to hit the front, with Dynasty prevailing

Oakwood Dynasty was purchased at the York Sale for £10,000, and her great grand dam is the legendary Nadia Lobell (US). Nadia Lobell was born in 1984, took her record 1.53.4 at 3 and won over $1 million dollars and for over 30 years The top 3yo fillies in North America annually compete in the Nadia Lobell Pace

There were 8 entries for the Colts & Geldings division, however with 2 non-runners only 6 came to post.

The winner, I SHOT THE SHERIFF came from post position 4, and showed blistering pace to hit the front before the  quarter in 27.4. He went to the half mile in 58.7 and opened up again on the back straight hitting the three quarter in 1.28.4 and won in 1.59.3.

This win follows his success in winning at Appleby and also the Scottish Derby at Haughfield. I SHOT THE SHERIFF is from HENRY HILL (US)’s first crop and  Come Closer (US).  He was pursued home by BORN IN LOCKDOWN who was somewhat adrift in the early part of the race, and did come with an exceptional run to finish second in 2.00.4.  Born In Lockdown is another by Foreclosure (NZ) and out of the exceptional mare Judy Hall (CAN).  In third was COALFORD GOODFELLA another from the first crop of Henry Hill (US) x Coalford Amoretto / Coalford Laag.

HENRY HILL (US) was imported by the Coalford Stud in 2019 and we have now seen several of his offspring making their way to the winner’s enclosure in the Juvenille Races.  He has a record of 1.50.1 and won 3 of his 5 lifetime starts.
