A polite reminder to Stallion Owners and this year this is more important than ever! You should now be applying for your mating certificates. As per STAGBI Rules, Mating Certificates should be applied for by 31st December.

Due to ‘technological advancements’ there are changes in the way the Laboratories are doing the DNA analysis for Parental Verification. As a result STAGBI is now required to repeat the DNA analysis for stallions and broodmares. This is a situation beyond STAGBI’s control and more details will follow in another update. It will be a costly process and to repeat the DNA analysis will cost £50 for every stallion and every broodmare.

However, STAGBI have boldly agreed to assist breeders and will pay for the repeat DNA analysis for stallions who have applied for mating certificates and all the mares where Mating Certificates have been applied for. These Mating certificates MUST be applied for by the 31st December 2023.

Any Stallion or Broodmare where a Mating Certificate has not been applied for, then the owner (stallion owner for stallions and Mare owner for Mares) will be responsible for the £50 fee for the repeat DNA analysis. In other words, for any retrospective/late mating certificates issued in 2024 the OWNER WILLL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR THE REPEAT DNA ANALYSIS. BUT if the mating certificate is applied for, as required BEFORE 31st Dec 2023, STAGBI will pay for the repeat DNA Analysis.

If you are a stallion owner please submit your application for mating certificates NOW. If you are a mare owner, then please make sure the stallion owner has applied for mating certs now so that you avoid these additional costs.
