Great to see British horses continuing to fly the flag in the US. Congratulations to the connections of GDs THUNDER on his recent win at Monticello this week. He now has 4 wins from 6 starts in USA, with a record of p5, 1.57.3 $26,598.

GDs THUNDER (aka Jack) is a 6 year old gelding by Art Professor (US) out of GDs Storm that was exported after a successful 2023 season. From 7 starts in 2023, he won 3. These included the George Newton Final and a heat at Haughfield and subsequently a ‘short head’ win at Tir Prince on the VDM weekend, when he took his 2.00.2 record.

But his career started as a 2yo, finishing 2nd in his racing debut in the Group 1 Junior Welsh Dragon  (Covid year when the Dragon races were re-located to Tir Prince). He enjoyed further success as a 2yo when runner up again in both the SHRC Futurity (Group 2, Corbiewood) and the BHRC Sire Stakes (Group 1, York).

Onto his 3yo campaign and he started extremely well, winning the SHRC 3yo Derby at Corbiewood.  This was his only win of the season, but he was never far from the action as he was placed in the STAGBI British Championship (Tir Prince), NWHOA Championship (Group 2, Tir Prince), Breeders Crown (Group 1, Tir Prince), BHRC Sire Stakes (Group 2, York) and Bob Kennedy Memorial Final at Corbiewood. He raced frequently as a 4 year old and enjoyed a heat & final winner at his local track, Haughfield.

GDs Thunder was owned and trained by the Cassels family, prior to export he had a record of p5, 2.00.2, won £12,706. He was bred by the late Greg Dunbar, and how proud he would be to have one of his horses racing in the USA.
