The Annual STAGBI & BHRC AWARDS 2023 were once again held at the Mercure Hotel, Haydock last weekend, and what a wonderful evening to celebrate the champions and achievements of the 2023.

STAGBI predominantly focused on the success of British Breeders, and there was much to celebrate with British Stallions and homebred horses certainly flying the flag in 2023

The STAGBI BREEDERS PREMIUM AWARDS. A National Breeders Premium awarded to the Breeders of the top 5 females (Mares/Fillies) and the top 5 Males (Horses/Colts/geldings) by number of wins (as published from the results of BHRC, IHRA, W&BCRA & NISA).  To be eligible for the Breeders Premium the horse will be British Bred (i.e. conceived and born in GB); STAGBI registered and Breeder to be current STAGBI member. STAGBI BREEDERS PREMIUM AWARD WINNERS 2023

The INTERNATIONAL BREEDERS PREMIUM is awarded the Breeder of the most successful (as deemed/voted by the STAGBI Directors) that has been exported.  To be eligible, the horse will be British Bred (i.e. conceived and born in GB); STAGBI registered and Breeder to be current a STAGBI member.  The 2023 International Breeder’s Premium was awarded to COALFORD SUNSHINE bred by Gary Maw, Coalfrod Stud. Now a 5 year old and a grey daughter by Coalford Laag and out of Coalford Dawn. Coalford Dawn, is a full sister to Coalford Tetrick and is by Rogue Hall (US) and out of Sweet Tahoma (US). So very much a Coalford home bred. She was exported after her 3 yo campaign in GB and during 2023 in America she was placed in 16 of her 22 starts, winning 5 and earned $97,750.

The BRITISH BREEDERS BONUS Awards are awarded to the breeders of the winners of specific races as chosen by the STAGBI Directors ahead of the racing season.  To be eligible for the Breeders Bonus the horse will be British Bred (i.e. conceived and born in GB); STAGBI registered and Breeder to be current STAGBI member. The nominated races and winners for the 2023 season were as follows:

STAGBI BRITISH BREEDERS BONUS 2023

The BHRC SIRE STAKES LEADING SIRE awarded to the STAGBI Registered stallion with highest points from the Sire Stakes races. The 2023 winner was Tom Hill (US) owned by STAGBI past president Sue Young and received £250 & Trophy. Tom Hill (US) was represented in the 2023 BHRC Sire Stakes by Moneyhill (winner 2yo C&G); Born In Isolation (3rd 2yo C&G); Chasingthestars (winner 2yo Fillies); Imperial Flame & Stateside Ideal (2nd & 3rd 3yo Fillies) and Stateside Bugsy (winner 3yo C&G).

The W&BRA STAGBI SERIES offers an owners Bonus to the top 6 Mares and top 6 Colts/Gelding racing with W&B in the 2023 season.  Points were allocated during the season and to be eligible for Bonus horse will be British Bred (i.e. conceived and born in GB); hold a STAGBI Passport, currently STAGBI registered and the owner to be current STAGBI member.   

Top Female ZULU WARRIOR Owned by M Tromans and Top Male ELLAVAFELLA Owned by A Bevan, both receiving £300 and their trophy.

STAGBI MARES RACES – the winners of the races during the season were acknowledged and duly received their trophies.

  • BRYWINS MYBEACH owned by G Allan (BHRC)

STAGBI would like to congratulate all the STAGBI and BHRC winners with a special mention to MONEYHILL and Hamish Muirhead for winning the BHRC Horse of the Year 2023.
